Importance of Number Quotient for Personality Development

Here, we are not talking about the general intelligence quotient pertaining to general reasoning, arithmetic and numerical aptitude. That kind of IQ is still essential. However, we need a more critical variant of IQ to excel in this information world.

The modern-day IQ refers more to the following:

• Business Intelligence
• Service Intelligence
• Competitive Intelligence

Leveraging

• Natural human intelligence

Using

• Simple tools

We certainly need the help of trained data scientists and analytics experts to run complex analytics involving massive data. They can produce several insights covering:

1. What happened in the past
2. What is likely to occur in the future
3. What we need to do now

These experts will apply AI and sophisticated algorithms to fetch answers.

However, we are referring to an essential self-service; common sense driven insights, to boost our daily productivity.

What are we doing with this data?

When we have a 20/20 vision, we call it regular eyesight. We know about visual acuity and how to measure it. We have contact lenses, spectacles and laser surgeries to improve visual acuity.

What about our perceptual acuity? Is there a way to measure it?

If it can be measured what can a person with a 20/20 perceptual acuity see?

Can a person with a 20/20 perceptual acuity look at a simple excel worksheet and comprehend the information?

What about our estimation skills?

A simple check of your perception and estimation sense:

• What’s the average time spent by three of your direct reports to commute to the office?

• Approximately how many steps do you take from your home to reach an ATM, medical shop, or grocery store?

• Approximately how many complaints and revision requests would you have received in the last month?

• Which were your best and worst productivity weeks last year?

• What went wrong when the productivity hit the floor?

These questions look simple, but many people find it challenging to give reasonably accurate answers.

Q: Do we have the ability to perceive an impending danger and take proactive steps?

A: What went wrong with epidemic? Why were so many people infected?

What is your perceptual acuity?

• Good
•  Bad

Your ability to find the doors when everyone sees only walls is your perceptual acuity.
